Acupuncture in ear
Auricular (ear) acupuncture has no plausible basis in science and no scientific study has shown it to be effective for any disease or condition, yet it is permitted under Florida law for a wide range of healthcare problems.  Is this in the best interest of the healthcare consumer?

The Campaign for Science-Based Healthcare is a Florida not-for-profit corporation founded on three basic principles. These principles are grounded in two well-settled legal and ethical duties: respect for the autonomy of each person and protection of the health, safety and welfare of the state’s citizenry.

  1. Every Floridian has the right to make his or her healthcare decisions based on accurate information about risks, benefits and cost.
  2. To avoid harm, a plausible basis in science, supported by the best available evidence of effectiveness and safety, must be the cornerstone of all healthcare offered to Florida citizens.

  3. The State of Florida should not license healthcare practitioners who employ unscientific healthcare practices.

As you will learn on this website, Florida’s current system of regulating healthcare practitioners violates all three of these principles. The purpose of the Campaign for Science-Based Healthcare is to bring these violations to the attention of the public and policy makers and urge regulatory changes which will better serve the people of Florida.
